Biodiversity in Bulgaria: Unique and endemic plant species in Rila and Pirin

Bulgaria is also distinguished by its great wealth of plant species. 💪

The varied climate and topography – from high mountains to low plains create habitats for over 3800 plant species, 170 of which are endemic, i.e. found only in our country!

This makes Bulgaria one of the European countries with a high level of biodiversity.

In particular, Rila and Pirin are home to many of these unique species, including the beautiful and rare Pirin poppy (Papaver degenii) and the symbol of the Bulgarian mountains – the Rila primrose (Primula deorum). 🌻 🌼 🌸
